While living at home alone Karen was going to the hospital 7-8 times a month and was told her best bet was to admit to a skilled nursing facility that could help her achieve her goals. Even though she didn’t come to our facility right away, Karen has now been with us for about two years and although it wasn’t how she expected growing old would go, she has been able to find joy here in several ways. Karen enjoys sitting and chatting with other residents, socializing in various activities such as bingo, which is her favorite group activity. While in her room Karen has taken to coloring beautiful pictures using colored pencils, markers and gel pens. She’s completed dozens of pieces, several of them which she has framed on her wall, while giving others away to residents and staff to brighten their days. She learned the technique she uses by following a paint by numbers style, which gives her artwork a brilliant array of colors versus using just one color. We are so happy to have Karen as one of our own here at Arden Place of Grapevine.
